A Note from the Director

As we recently launched the third year of the Building Connections for Success Program, we were delighted to welcome to our program the College of Science and Math, as well as the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.   With four colleges taking part in our program, the scope of the services offered has dramatically increased.   This fall, the Discipline-Based Freshman Connection Program offers over 500 incoming freshmen the opportunity to take part in one of twenty five different cohorts that are grouped around a common discipline or major. Those 500 students are supported by peer mentors, faculty mentors and a career advisor.

Serving over 1,500 students , who are enrolled this semester in high failure rate courses, the Peer Learning Facilitators Program is offering group tutorial services in eight courses across the four colleges.

To further develop the sense of belonging of our undergraduate students, the College of Science and Math is offering this year three new service learning courses that enhance the students’ experiential learning while at the same time rendering valuable services to the community.

Finally, in recognition of the importance of faculty development to our students’ success, we are offering this year three concurrent Faculty Learning Communities to over 40 faculty members with the goal of learning and sharing ways to meet the needs of the diverse CSUN student population.

I invite you to read below more about these and other exciting activities of the Building Connections for Success Program.
